“Redefining the Future Horizons: Planning the Sustainable Strategies of Tomorrow.”

TMEDE initiates a critical discussion on the pressing and unparalleled challenges presented by climate change, which the state, the financial sector, the engineering community, and society at large are tasked with addressing.

Climate change, major natural disasters, and increasingly frequent extreme conditions demand new strategies to achieve sustainable development. Urban areas, as well as rural regions, are currently grappling with severe, never-seen-before circumstances.

The conference, organized under the auspices ot the Bank of Greece and the Technical Chamber of Greece, aims to map and highlight these significant challenges, risks, opportunities, and critical issues in light of Greek and global experience and new scientific data.

Announcing the Conference, Mr. Konstantinos Makedos, President of TMEDE, stated: “With this new initiative, we are assembling a forum for reflection and dialogue led by some of the most esteemed experts in the field. Our society is facing extraordinary  circumstance where new needs are emerging, and the way we assess the requirements of the residential environment is changing. TMEDE aims to focus on these new challenges and bring together the views of the experts regarding the future of cities, countries and the strategies which must be implemented.”

During the conference key topics related to climate change, sustainable urban development, and innovative strategies will be throroughly addressed. It will also  spotlight important initiatives and best practices to secure the timely utilization of 70 billion Euro of European funds originating from the RRF and the NSRF. Additionally, it will focus on attracting investments in a reliable business environment.

The Governor of the Bank of Greece, Mr. Yannis Stournaras, is the keynote speaker on the first day of the Conference, followed by other eminent speakers, such as the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Staikouras, the Minister of Digital Governance, Mr. Dimitris Papastergiou, the Alternate Minister of National Economy and Finance, Mr. Nikos Papathanassis, the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr Theodoros Skylakakis, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Nikos Tachiaos, the Chief Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister, Mr. Alexis Patelis, the Governor of South Aegean, Mr. Giorgos Hatzimarkos, the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Mr. Stelios Angeloudis, , as well as the President of the Technical Chamber of Greece, Mr. Giorgos Stasinos.

The conference will be attended by senior executives from Greek banks, the construction industry, and the telecommunications sector, as well as various market representatives. Professor & Scientific Director at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, and the mastermind behind the “15-minute city,” Mr. Carlos Moreno, will be the keynote speaker on the second day of the Conference, followed by internationally accredited scientists and Institution representatives such as Professor Amedeo Schiatarella, President of the International Academy of Architecture (IAA), Karim Elgendy – a fellow with Chatham House (London), Professor Peter Nijkamp, European Regional Sciences Academy, Professor Salvatore Monni from the “15-minute Cities” network in Rome, Regina Gonthier, President of the International Union of Architects (UIA), Nicholas Boys Smith, Founder & Director of CreateStreets, London, Advisor to the British Government, Professor Antonio Riverso, UIA former Vice President, IAA current member, as well as Mohammed Munyanya – member of the Sustainable Development Committee and former Vice President of the UIA for Kenya.
